Frequently Asked Questions
Most of this situation centers on Pastor Vaughn’s health needs. His wife, Carol, is caring for his physical needs after his stroke in 2022, which resulted in his inability to continue providing care for Becky.
These funds will provide Becky a place to live within her budget, paying for monthly expenses like water, electricity, etc. She cannot afford rent or a mortgage as she lives on about $1,500 a month ($500 in assistance, $1,000 in job related income). Additional donations will be invested in a safe portfolio to earn interest to help her pay for additional expenses in the years to come.
A Supplemental Trust has been created for Becky (The Supplemental Trust for Rebecca M. Vaughn).
The trust is overseen by a CPA, a third-party non-family member, and a family member. This group of qualified people will help Becky budget her expenses and support her needs as they develop.
Again, due to Pastor Vaughn’s stroke in 2022, the house had to be sold to retrieve some of the equity to pay for his medical needs.
The house was purchased for $229,000 with an additional $35,000 spent on renovations and accommodations for her physical limitations and needs.
Many of you know that Becky has been living in a church member’s vacant house for the past year, and she has done great. Medicaid provides her with twenty-five hours of in-home care per week to do what she is unable to do (laundry, cooking, cleaning, etc.)
Yes, the neighborhood was chosen to keep her near the church community. It is a safe, well-established neighborhood. In addition, we have installed a Ring camera system, as well as an internal alarm system which includes daily monitoring. She also has a life-alert button if she ever has a physical emergency.
Check-in on her! She does pretty well on her own, but needs community and people available to her in case of needs that might arise.
